Historical information about Macao

Macau (Portuguese: Macau), commonly known as Haojiang, Casino and Shu Da Port, or the mirror of the sea, is the first casino in the world. It is located on the north shore of the South China Sea, west of the Pearl River Estuary and 63 kilometers east of Hong Kong. The whole territory of Macao consists of Macao Peninsula, Taipa Island, Luhuan and Taipa Island. Macao Peninsula is the core of Macao's development, and a small part of its northeast land is connected with Chinese mainland. Macao has been the territory of China since the Qin Dynasty, belonging to Nanhai County (Guangdong Province) and Baiyue County, and to Nanhai County of Jiaozhou in the Eastern Han Dynasty (covering most of Guangdong, Guangxi and Vietnam).
