Functions of Yanshan Reservoir

Yanshan Reservoir is an important part of the flood control engineering system in Shahe River basin determined by Huaihe River basin planning, and it is also a key project to control the flood control safety of the river from Luohe City to Zhoukou City. In the past 30 years, there have been three major floods in the Huanghuai basin of Henan Province, which have caused heavy losses. In July, 2004, the Ganjiang River Basin was flooded once in 20 years. The flood peak is high and large, which has caused tens of thousands of people to be homeless at the Lihe No.9 execution port, a tributary of Shahe River, and caused huge economic losses of 4.3 billion yuan to Pingdingshan City, Luohe City and Zhoukou City. After the implementation of this project, the flood control standard of Lijiang River can be raised from once every five years to once every 20 years. Combined with other projects in the flood control engineering system of Shahe River basin, the flood control standard of Shahe main stream can be raised to once every 50 years. It can also provide domestic industrial water for Luohe city and surrounding counties and districts, and provide water for immigrant irrigation areas in the reservoir area. Yanshan Reservoir plays an important role in promoting regional social and economic sustainable development and ensuring flood control safety in downstream areas.
