About the history of Zhoushan in Ming Dynasty?

In the Ming Dynasty (A.D. 1368 ~ 1644) and 1369 (the second year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty), Zhu Yuanzhang ordered the southern general Tanghe to handle the southeast defense. Tang and his two commanders were killed when they intervened in a civil dispute with local residents on Xiushan Island. Tanghe was very angry with the people of Zhoushan, and said to the court, "Guo Chang residents have enemies outside, but there are many thieves inside." It is a "hopeless stubborn people" and a "great disaster in border defense", and it is determined to abolish county governance and drive away islanders. Zhu Yuanzhang listened to Tanghe's report, wrote a letter, withdrew Guochang County, and moved all the islanders to the mainland. After the imperial edict was promulgated, Guo Zuofu, an Australian from Wei Zi, thought this was a big fallacy, and went to Nanjing to argue with Zhu Yuanzhang that Zhoushan islanders could not move in. To this end, Zhu Yuanzhang made adjustments and agreed to leave some residents, that is, 547 households within four miles of the city, 8085 people can stay, and the remaining 46 island residents all rushed to the mainland. This is the famous first sea ban in Zhoushan history.

After Guo Chang County was abolished, history books began to call Guo Chang Zhoushan. "Zhoushan" is a folk, or named after the island's "mountain shape like a boat" or named after "fishing boats gather here".

Although the immigration order was promulgated and implemented, there was no county government, but in fact, many residents returned to the island one after another, gradually breaking the restrictions, and coastal fishermen inevitably berthed in Zhoushan, or sheltered from the wind or supplemented with fresh water food. During the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty (1522- 1566), there were 6,005 households in Zhoushan Islands.

At the end of the Ming Dynasty and the beginning of the Qing Dynasty, some adherents of the late Ming Dynasty embraced King Zhu Yihai of Lu as the "supervisor of the country" and moved to Zhoushan on 1649 (the sixth year of Qing Shunzhi), where they launched an offensive and defensive war with the Qing Dynasty, which lasted for more than ten years until the early years of Qing Kangxi.
