What happened to the Mexican father and son?
The Mexican father and son incident is a famous case in which a 15-year-old Mexican father and son were separated during a border raid by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in July 2018. The boy and his mother are said to have traveled at least 1,500 miles, enduring intimidation, violence from drug traffickers and charges from greedy border guards, just to escape the violent southern Mexican country. An immigrant started a family when, while crossing the border illegally, the mother was detained in the United States but the children were transferred to an Islamic child care center. It is considered a classic example of U.S. President Trump’s administration executing immigration policies alone. The case has triggered an unprecedented federal judicial investigation that could lead to a major precedent with significant power over future actions against immigrants.
