Investigation on preparation strategies before studying in Canada

For the first-time students going abroad, studying abroad is both exciting and stressful. What are the precautions for the first time? What luggage should I take? The following are the preparation strategies for studying in Canada. Let's have a look.

I. Luggage

The first step to Canada is the preparation of luggage. Students can check two pieces of luggage for free, and the sum of three sides of each piece does not exceed 158cm, and each piece weighs 23kg, that is, the maximum free check-in amount is 46kg, and the sum of three sides does not exceed 1 15cm, and the weight can be slightly exceeded, but not too much, otherwise a high fine will be paid. It is suggested to put heavy books and certificates in the trunk, and sharp iron tools such as knives and liquids in the checked baggage. However, it is not advisable to have too much luggage abroad. On the one hand, what you buy at home may not be shared locally. Secondly, students may often move because of school transfer or other factors, and it is very troublesome to have too many things.

1. Food

Canada prohibits individuals from bringing fresh meat, vegetables, fruits and plants. Never bring these things. The food you carry must be sealed cans packed in vacuum, but not too much, because Canadian customs officials have the right to quarantine these items. Take less alcohol and tobacco, because you have to pay a lot of taxes if you exceed it. Condiments can be bought in Canada, but they are not suitable for the tastes of people in northern China. Snacks there are few varieties and expensive, so you can choose to carry them according to your hobbies and tastes.

2. Money

China stipulates that each person can carry up to 20,000 RMB or 5,000 US dollars and equivalent foreign currency, while Canada stipulates that those who carry 1 10,000 Canadian dollars or more must declare to the customs, and offenders will be severely punished. It may not be safe for international students to carry a lot of cash with them. For large sums of money, you can use traveler's checks, money orders or international credit cards. These three methods are universal, convenient and quick. At present, many domestic banks provide this service. Among them, traveler's checks do not need to be exchanged abroad, while money orders need to be exchanged abroad.

3. Folder

Passport, visa, two-inch photo, degree certificate, diploma and transcript, original English transcripts such as TOEFL and IELTS, admission notice and tuition receipt. If you want to contact the school again when you arrive in Canada, you can notarize it with your diploma and report card. In addition, immigrants may also need information when applying for a visa.

4. books

Longman English-Chinese translation and Chinese-English translation dictionary (based on American pronunciation), English grammar books, reference books for various subjects, TOEFL IELTS reference books, and personal favorite Chinese and English reading materials. If you are in French-speaking Canada, it is recommended to bring a French-Chinese dictionary.

Second, the entry and exit issues.

Students are required to bring the following documents when entering the country:

Original passport and visa;

2. Exchange admission permits.

When entering the country, after the immigration officer has checked your passport and air ticket, you must go to the counter on the other side and show the immigration officer the entry study permit to change it, otherwise you can't enter the country. Even if you can enter the country, not having a study permit will bring great trouble to your renewal in the future. )

3. Minors also need to produce guardianship books;

4. Canadian Customs Entry Form (to be filled in on the plane);

5. Original or photocopy of the notice of admission to a Canadian school;

6. Original school receipt or remittance voucher (if the school requires to pay tuition before going to Canada);

L or other original English test transcripts (if any);

8. Original notarial certificates of all relevant students, such as:

Birth notarization, highest education, complete transcripts, no criminal record, etc. This customs does not necessarily check, but students are advised to take it with them to avoid losing it.

Note: notarial certificate about parents or property need not be brought.

9. Because the Canadian Immigration Department requires students to show proof of sufficient funds at the port of entry when they arrive in Canada, they can obtain a study permit and are allowed to enter Canada. In order not to affect the normal entry of students, it is suggested that students can apply for a local bank card in Canada in advance, deposit at least 5,000 Canadian dollars, and print out the deposit certificate or draft to enter the country. Please arrive at the airport 3 hours before you leave China.

The detailed process of going through the exit formalities in China is as follows: entering the customs hall-finding the check-in counter of Air Canada or China International Airlines-exchanging boarding passes and checking luggage-receiving security check-in-boarding procedures-waiting for boarding at the corresponding boarding gate-boarding (according to the boarding pass).

Please fill in the Canadian customs declaration form before the plane arrives at the destination.

The detailed procedures for entering Canada are as follows:

Fill in the customs declaration form truthfully before the plane arrives (fill in it on the plane, with general contents: where you came from, what flight you took and what you brought)-adjust your watch according to local time after disembarking-go through immigration formalities (provide passport, visa, entry card, admission notice, etc.). )-Apply for a visa for international students at the Immigration Office-Get the checked baggage-Confirm the transfer gate and check the baggage again-Boarding.

It should be noted that if the baggage is lost, you must go to the relevant service desk at the airport to report the loss of the baggage. And pay attention to accurately fill in the student's name, school address and host family phone number, so that the airport can contact the students at any time.

In order to prevent the luggage from being lost, students had better make obvious marks on the luggage.

Third, the visa issue.

What are the common visa types for international students? What are the deadlines that need special attention?

There are generally two kinds of visas for Canadian students: student visas and round-trip visas.

1, student ID:

It is the proof of the legal status of international students in Canada. They should apply for a new certificate at the first stop (Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal) when they arrive in Canada, and start to apply for a new certificate about 6 weeks before the expiration.

2. Multiple entry visa (single entry):

The visa is attached to the passport, and you should apply for renewal about 6 weeks before it expires. If the validity period of the round-trip visa has exceeded, you should apply for a re-entry visa to the Immigration Bureau in advance, otherwise it will not be added back.
