Brief introduction of Jiyuan dialect

Although Jiyuan is a city in Henan, Jiyuan dialect and Zhongyuan Mandarin belong to two dialect systems, and the pronunciation of Jiyuan dialect is essentially different from Henan dialect. The most important point is that Jiyuan dialect has the entering tone that Central Plains Mandarin has not reserved, and naturally Jiyuan dialect is classified as a part of Jin dialect.

Jiyuan and its surrounding areas used to be the jurisdiction of Huaiqing government in history, so Jiyuan dialect is sometimes called "Huaiqing dialect". Jin Wengong, one of the famous five tyrants in the Spring and Autumn Period, helped King Xiang of Zhou to quell the royal rebellion, and "kept his promise and reduced his cost" and incorporated Jiyuan into the territory of Jin State. Han set up Hanoi County, later Wei set up Huaifu, Yuan changed Huaiqing Road, Ming set up Huaiqing House, and attacked it. Later, during the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang, the founder of the Ming Dynasty, adopted the advice of Liu Jiugao, a doctor of the Ministry of Immigration, and organized the people of Pingyang Prefecture in Shanxi to move to Huaiqing in the fourth, twenty-third and twenty-eighth years of Hongwu respectively. Today, most of the population in Jiyuan dialect area immigrated from Shanxi. Therefore, Jiyuan dialect is closely related to Jin dialect. However, Jiyuan belongs to Henan and is inevitably influenced by Henan dialect, so it is somewhat different from Jin dialect. Jiyuan dialect has its own unique characteristics.
