How do American children cultivate English thinking?

More and more international practices have proved that only immersion English teaching can make children think directly in English and communicate with foreigners at normal speed. What is immersion? Simply put, immersion English teaching is to immerse children in English environment. English is not only the content of learning, but also a learning tool.

This teaching method has been popular in Europe and America for more than 40 years. Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore, India and other countries with dual official languages have acquired the ability of a second mother tongue through this teaching method, which is of great reference significance for our domestic children to learn English.

There are many children from immigrant countries (Weibo) in America. In the process of learning English as a second mother tongue, teachers will implement immersion English teaching for children from two aspects. From the perspective of environmental immersion, for young children or children with poor foundation, teachers will cooperate with rich body language when expressing content, stimulate children with multiple senses from the aspects of vision, hearing and touch, help children acquire English in understanding, and change the forms and means in a class every 15 minutes, so as to continuously enhance children's interest in learning, constantly improve the repetition rate of core knowledge points and strengthen the learning effect. In non-class hours, when chatting or playing games with children, teachers will also review the contents of classroom learning in English to help children memorize unconsciously.

Immersive learning must have a content carrier, and pure English thinking can be cultivated based on disciplines. Traditional English education mainly focuses on learning simple life vocabulary and language, lacking cultural background, subject knowledge and ability training, so children mostly recite some English words and rarely speak fluent sentences. All languages have connotations. Only by taking subject knowledge (Chinese, mathematics and science) as the carrier can we learn English well and let children form the habit of thinking and expressing in English from an early age.
