New Zealand student visa: a work guide

The New Zealand student visa allows the holder to work under certain conditions, which will enrich your study abroad life. If you plan to work, remember to apply for the tax number, so that you can operate legally and avoid unnecessary trouble.

Application tax number

Applying for a tax number is the first step in the work. You can download the application form from IRD website, prepare the original and photocopy of your passport, the original and photocopy of your student ID card or tuition bill, and then submit your application to the post office.

Curriculum requirements

International students need to study professional courses of CET-4 or above for at least one year. When applying for a student visa, make sure that the visa clearly States that you are allowed to work 20 hours a week for part-time jobs.

Language course visa

If you have a language course visa and the course lasts for at least 26 weeks, you can apply for a work permit. For language students who have registered for less than 26 weeks, they need to reach IELTS 5 or above and submit a V.O.C application to obtain a work permit.
