How to learn English better when studying abroad

The first hurdle before everyone when studying abroad is to pass the language test. This is also the most basic and important step in studying abroad. Today's English exams for studying abroad are nothing more than TOEFL, IELTS, GRE, GMAT, LSAT, SAT and other well-known "foreign exams".

1.TOEFL:

TOEFL is an English proficiency test conducted by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) in the United States. Its full name is "The Test of English Proficiency for Non-Native English Speakers" , Chinese transliteration is "TOEFL". There are three types of TOEFL, namely: pbt-paper based test 677, cbt-computer basedtest 300, ibt-internet basedtest 120, the new TOEFL full score is 120 points.

TOEFL test is valid for two years. In addition to colleges and universities in most countries such as the United States and Canada, some countries and regions in Europe, Oceania (such as Australia, New Zealand), and Southeast Asia have also recognized TOEFL test scores. In recent years, domestic United Nations agencies in China and foreign companies and joint ventures have also used TOEFL test scores when recruiting staff, or when the International Fund tests staff's English proficiency. The British Home Office ended its cooperation with the American educational testing agency ETS in early April 2014 and no longer recognizes the results of its two major English exams, TOEFL and TOEIC. Some Chinese students preparing to study in the UK have reported that they have received notices from their schools requiring them to re-submit their English test scores. 2.IELTS:

IELTS is an English proficiency test taken by people who want to study abroad or immigrate to Commonwealth countries. The test content is divided into immigration (Category G) and academic (Category A), including listening, speaking, reading and writing. Category G and Category A only differ in two single items: reading and writing. The test format is a written test, with a full score of 9 points. The test time is: 165 minutes. The test is valid for two years. In 2013, IELTS was recognized by more than 8,000 institutions, covering educational institutions, employers, professional associations and government departments in 170 countries around the world. In 2012, in the United States, more than 3,000 colleges and universities recognized IELTS scores, [3] including all Ivy League schools (Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Pennsylvania, Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth) and most of the top 100 U.S. universities. As of 2012, 100,000 students from mainland China have used their IELTS scores to apply to American colleges and universities.

3.GRE:

The full name is Graduate Record Examination, and its Chinese name is the American Graduate Record Examination. It is applicable to all majors except law and business. It is administered by the Educational Testing Service , referred to as ETS) hosted. GRE is a test score that is required by all graduate schools of universities around the world (except management schools and law schools). It is also the most important criterion that professors base on whether to award scholarships to applicants. Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and South Korea currently implement separate examinations. It consists of a computer-based test (analytical writing) and a written test (Chinese and mathematics). In addition to the above-mentioned test areas, which are mainly in mainland China, computer-based tests (analytical writing, Chinese, and mathematics) are currently implemented.

The GRE test is divided into two types: one is the general ability test or the aptitude test (General test or Aptitude Test); the other is the professional test or the advanced test (Subject Test or Advanced Test). GRE also has a Writing Assessment, a writing test (computer-based test), which is now a required test. General test The GRE General test mainly tests the candidate's basic English ability and the breadth and depth of English knowledge. Most Chinese students take this test. 4.GMAT:

The abbreviation of Graduate Management Admission Test, the Chinese name is Graduate Management Admission Test.

It is a standardized examination that has been widely used as an entrance examination for the Master of Business Administration. It is currently the most reliable test item to test whether candidates have the ability to successfully complete the MBA program. It is specially designed to help business schools [Weibo ] or MBA program assesses whether applicants are qualified to pursue further studies in business administration.

Because GMAC, the organizer of GMAT, has many well-known business schools around the world as its members, GMAT scores are generally recognized by major business schools around the world and are currently the most commonly used test scores when applying for MBAs around the world. Applicants are required to provide a test score. The GMAT test consists of three parts: analytical writing, mathematics and Chinese. The full score for analytical writing is 6 points, and the total score for the last two items is 800 points. Generally, university admission requirements are between 550 and 600 points. Universities with high admission standards are more likely to require 650 points or above. The latest GMAT test consists of seven sections (Section), each section takes 30 minutes to test, including reading comprehension (Reading Comprehension), sentence correction (Sentence Correction), problem solving (Problem Solving), and data filling (Data filling). 5.LSAT:

The abbreviation of Law School AdmissionTest. It is a law school admissions qualification examination sponsored by the Law School Admission Council (Law Services) in Pennsylvania, USA. This exam is one of the reference requirements for admission to American law schools. The scores will be used to estimate the applicant's correct and reasonable inference and judgment ability, analysis and evaluation ability in law school. There is no restriction on eligibility to apply for the exam. Almost all law schools require applicants to take the LSAT. The LSAT exam*** has five parts, including three aspects of content. Each part is 35 minutes long, plus 30 minutes of writing. The three aspects of content are reading comprehension, logical reasoning and analytical reasoning. The writing part lasts for 30 minutes, and its content is to choose one of the two viewpoints on the given topic and elaborate on it. The writing part does not count towards the person’s total score and is only for reference.

The full score of the LSAT test is 180 points, and the minimum score is 120 points. The calculation method is based on the number of correct answers selected. Generally, good schools require scores above 160. Test scores are generally sent by the sponsoring organization about five weeks after the test, and LSAT scores are valid for 5 years. The LSAT exam is held four times a year, in February, June, October and December. Mainland China has fixed examinations at Peking University in June and December. Some candidates from mainland China will choose to go to Hong Kong to take the LSAT exam held there in February and October. The registration fee for the LSAT exam is $132 starting in June 2009, and an additional $64 is required for late registration.

6.SAT:

The full name is Scholastic Assessment Test, and its Chinese name is Academic Ability Assessment Test. Sponsored by the College Board, SAT scores are an important reference for high school students from all over the world to apply for study and scholarships in prestigious American schools. SAT is equivalent to the American College Entrance Examination. The current format of the SAT exam began in March 2005. The total duration of the SAT test is 3 hours and 45 minutes (225 minutes). It has three subjects: Critical Reading, Mathematics and Writing. Each SAT test is divided into 10 sections. The total score is 2400 points.

SAT exams are held on the first Saturday in March, May, June, October, November and December and on the last Saturday in January. Among them, the exam is held in March every year only in the United States. There are no test centers in mainland China. Generally speaking, there are examination rooms in Hong Kong, Singapore, Macau, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea and other places in Asia (except in March every year), and mainland candidates can choose to take the examination in these places.
