What is non-immigrant status?

There are two legal visas to enter the United States, one is an immigrant visa and the other is a non-immigrant visa. Non-immigrant visas have a certain validity period. Non-immigrant visa holders will lose their legitimacy if they do not apply for extension or change their status before the allowed stay period comes.
