How long does it take to change my passport before it expires?

Legal analysis: 1. Passport renewal should be done within 6 months before the expiration of the passport, and the advance time should not exceed 1 year at most. If the passport expires, it will be reissued.

2. Passport renewal must be applied in person. Fill in an Application Form for China Passport/Travel Certificate/Seaman's Certificate/Return Certificate one by one, and submit three recent bareheaded passport photos with my name on the back. The specific requirements for photos are:

1. Photos of full-length passport with bareheaded front (glossy paper, size 48mm x 33mm, head width 21-24mm, length 28-33mm, photos beyond the specified size range will not be accepted);

2. The background of the photo is white, and other background colors, remake photos, black-and-white photos or photos printed by a color printer are not accepted.

3. Provide one original passport and one copy (A4 paper) (blank pages in the passport are not required to be copied, and applicants who apply for a replacement passport can also provide a copy of the birth certificate with photos). Applicants for visas are required to provide relevant letters or other relevant certificates from the Immigration Bureau (such as a receipt and a copy of the application fee).

4. You must meet the client at least once when you apply for passport renewal. If the applicant lives in a foreign country, you can prepare an envelope with a return address and a stamp after applying at the museum, and the consulate general will send the certificate back.

Legal basis: In case of any of the following circumstances in Article 11 of the Passport Law of the People's Republic of China, the passport holder may apply for a new or reissued passport in accordance with the regulations: (1) The validity period of the passport is about to expire;

(2) The passport visa page is about to be used up;

(3) The passport is damaged and cannot be used;

(4) the passport is lost or stolen;

(5) Other circumstances that justify the need to renew or reissue passports.

In China, the passport holder's application for renewal or replacement of an ordinary passport is submitted by himself to the exit-entry administration department of the public security organ of the local people's government at or above the county level where the household registration is located; In foreign countries, I shall submit it to the Chinese people, Chinese embassies, consulates or other overseas institutions entrusted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. China citizens who have settled abroad apply for renewal or replacement of ordinary passports after returning to China, and I shall submit them to the exit-entry administration department of the public security organ of the local people's government at or above the county level in their temporary residence.

The renewal or replacement of diplomatic passports and official passports shall be handled in accordance with the relevant regulations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
