The school was founded in 1956, formerly known as Nanning Water Conservancy School. 1970 was renamed Guangxi Hydropower School. In 2002, it was upgraded to Guangxi Vocational and Technical College of Water Conservancy and Electric Power. The school is a national demonstration (backbone) vocational college, a national high-quality water conservancy vocational college, a national water conservancy higher vocational education demonstration college, a high-level vocational college and a high-level professional construction unit in Guangxi, a demonstration vocational college in Guangxi, a modern apprenticeship pilot unit of the Ministry of Education and the first batch of modern apprenticeship pilot units in the autonomous region.
