College is the only state-owned animal husbandry and veterinary college in Shandong Province. Founded in 1955, it is directly under the management of Shandong Provincial Department of Agriculture and Education. It is a national demonstration (backbone) vocational college and a demonstration vocational college in Shandong Province. The college was formerly known as "Taian Animal Husbandry and Veterinary School of Shandong Province" founded by 1955, and was renamed as "Shandong Animal Husbandry and Veterinary College" with the approval of Shandong Provincial People's Committee in 1958, and was established as an institution of higher learning. 1960, the school site was moved from Taian City, Shandong Province to Weifang, renamed as "Shandong Animal Husbandry and Veterinary School" and changed to a technical secondary school. In April, 2002, with the approval of Shandong Provincial People's Government and the record of Ministry of Education, it was independently upgraded to Shandong Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Vocational College, and was established as an ordinary institution of higher learning, directly under the management of Shandong Provincial Department of Agriculture and Provincial Department of Education.

The college is located in the center of Weifang, the beautiful world kite capital, adjacent to the municipal party Committee, the municipal government and Weifang TV station, with superior geographical location and convenient transportation conditions. The college covers an area of 2,800 mu and is divided into two campuses, north and south, and two independent teaching and training areas.
