In the early 1960s, Huangchuan soft-shelled turtle was designated as an export inspection-free product by the state, and the Foreign Trade Department of Huangchuan County began to build ponds for breeding. 1985, Huangchuan Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology established a turtle breeding research group. That year, a turtle breeding pond was built, and wild turtles were purchased for breeding, and the growth laws and habits of turtles were observed. From 65438 to 0986, the artificial incubation and rapid propagation of Trionyx sinensis was recognized by Henan Science and Technology Commission and included in the key agricultural science and technology projects of that year, especially the heating propagation in winter was the first in China. 1987, the turtle culture area in Huangchuan was expanded to 18 mu. After the scientific researchers in Huangchuan County solved the technical problems of 16 turtle artificial breeding, warm breeding, artificial preparation of feed, mixed culture of fish and turtles, and prevention and control of turtle diseases, the turtle breeding in Huangchuan began with seasonal temporary breeding and foster care of wild turtles, and gradually developed into artificial incubation and professional breeding. With the support and guidance of the county party committee and government and the strong pull of the market, the turtle industry in Huangchuan County has developed vigorously and become the largest turtle breeding base in Henan Province, which is famous all over the country, so Huangchuan County is also known as the "turtle kingdom".

During the period of 1996, Huangchuan county party committee and government intensified the development of turtle breeding, organized eight large-scale turtle breeding companies in the county with special experimental sites as the center, and jointly established "Huangchuan Juyuan Chinese turtle group". The turtle industry in Huangchuan has rapidly formed a new pattern of large-scale development and intensive management, and turtle breeding in Huangchuan has entered a stage of rapid development. According to the statistics of 1997, there are 27 turtle farms in Huangchuan County, with 254 farmers/kloc-0 and more than 2,600 employees. Because Huangchuan soft-shelled turtle has a long history, excellent quality and distinctive features, breeding Huangchuan soft-shelled turtle has great market potential and good development prospects. Through continuous exploration, the turtle industry in Huangchuan has implemented a new business model of "brand+association+base+farmers", and realized the leap-forward development of turtle industry. In March 2006, Huangchuan County Ecological Turtle Breeding Association was established. The Association has seriously promoted scientific breeding and standardized production, improved the quality of commercial soft-shelled turtles, strengthened brand building, intensified marketing efforts, and actively declared the origin certification of pollution-free agricultural products in southern Henan and ecological soft-shelled turtles in China. In order to ensure that farmers can get timely and effective services before, during and after delivery, the Association has set up marketing companies, feed companies and Fumin aquatic products companies respectively, actively providing market information, feed marketing, greenhouse construction and technical guidance for turtle farmers, actively researching, improving and introducing greenhouse construction, seedling breeding and turtle disease prevention and control technologies, which has effectively promoted the scientific, standardized and efficient turtle breeding industry.
