Can I do mechanical design?

Let me talk about my own experience first, for reference: I majored in mechanical engineering (I didn't feel any difference in my ability after graduation). Fortunately, I joined a small machinery company as a mechanical design assistant with a double certificate. At that time, I only had a little knowledge of theory and CAD, and was responsible for drawing, mapping and blanking. I have long working hours and low salary. I studied hard for half a year, found an assistant engineer for a year, and then jumped ship.

1, now I am engaged in developing new equipment, analyzing the processing technology of new products to be processed by the equipment, then making plans and processing technologies, and calculating costs and quotations. After the order is issued, responsible for drawing engineering drawings, providing technical support to the production department and tracking the progress. The key point is to make a plan and think about what structure to use to complete the mechanical movement process all day. The difficulty lies in how to use the company's existing accessories and processing technology to reduce costs. As long as the assembly space is drawn with 3D software, there is basically no calculation. The calculation parameters are only limited to some simple calculations such as motion analysis and design transmission ratio. Generally, experiments are not needed, and experience is enough.

2. A qualified mechanical designer should know the processing technology and material characteristics of each processing equipment. In fact, it is unnecessary to ask you to engage in structural innovation. In fact, there are only a few kinds of mechanical structures. As long as you read more and understand them, you can apply them. This is the need of experience.

As long as you are interested, persistent, hardworking and flexible, you can engage in this industry. Although a high degree of education can bring you greater opportunities, it does not mean high ability. I suggest you find a small company first, accumulate design experience, and then tell you a secret that is not a secret. When recruiting engineers in small companies, the least value is academic qualifications, but your ability and experience.

Although I have been an R&D engineer for two or three years, I still can't drill the simplest teeth. The above is just my personal experience. I hope it won't make people laugh and be generous.
