Xuzhou, referred to as Xu, was called Pengcheng in ancient times. It is a prefecture-level city in Jiangsu Province. It is located in the northwest of Jiangsu Province, the southeast of the North China Plain, the north wing of the Yangtze River Delta, with Weishan Lake to the north, Xiao County to the west, and Xiao County to the east. It is adjacent to Lianyungang, connected to Suqian in the south, with the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal running through it, and the Longhai and Beijing-Shanghai railway lines intersecting in Xuzhou, known as the "thorough of five provinces". Xuzhou is an important gateway city in East China, an important science, education, culture, finance, tourism, medical, and convention and exhibition center in East China. Xuzhou is located in the southeast of the North China Plain, between 116°22′~118°40′ east longitude and 33°43′~34°58′ north latitude. It is about 210 kilometers long from east to west and 140 kilometers wide from north to south.
