Why do Luoyang and Xi 'an, as ancient capitals, seldom see palaces?

As ancient capitals, Luoyang and Xi 'an have now experienced dynasties and wars, leaving very few ancient buildings. In addition, most ancient buildings are wooden structures, and no matter how well designed, they can't break through the natural law of wood material decay. Today's ancient buildings are almost invisible except for the Ming and Qing Dynasties and other recent dynasties. Next, I will talk about why there are so few ancient buildings in Xi and Luoyang from the following aspects.

The first aspect is the replacement of dynasties and the destruction of war. Luoyang experienced the changes of Eastern Han Dynasty, Cao Wei Dynasty, Western Jin Dynasty, Northern Wei Dynasty, Sui and Tang Dynasties, and so did Xi 'an until the later Tang Dynasty. Large-scale wars are inevitable in the change of each dynasty. After all, the sword is ruthless, and it is difficult for these buildings to be completely preserved in the war.

In the second aspect, most ancient buildings are wooden structures, which will naturally decay. There was no reinforced concrete in ancient times, and most buildings were made of wood. Wood will rot naturally and fibers will break naturally. In addition, the ancient building technology is not strong in modern times, and if no one maintains it, it will naturally fall into disrepair. Therefore, most of the ancient buildings that can survive to the present are reconstructed according to some modern documents.

Thirdly, in the late Tang Dynasty, Zhu Wen forced Tang Zhaozong to move the capital and demolish the palace. After the Tang Dynasty, Chang 'an ceased to be the capital, and Luoyang ceased to be the capital. Zhu Wen demolished the Datang Palace and transported the timber to Luoyang. I guess it's been torn down, too. Even if there are relics in the Forbidden City, it is broken walls, and its ornamental value is not high.

This is why Xi and Luoyang have a long history, but there are no palaces left. After all, all the cultural relics that can be preserved are buried in the soil, and even the iron in the soil can't help but be exposed to the wind and the sun 1000 years. The above is my opinion on this matter, and I hope to adopt it.
