The relationship between Lotus and Macao goes back to ancient times. Some place names, street names, village names and temple names in Macao are related to lotus, such as Lotus Hill (now called Lotus Peak), Lotus Peak Temple, Lotus Creek Temple, Lotus Stem Lane, Lotus Stem Garden and Lotus Peak Stadium. In the past, it was common to grow lotus flowers in Macao, and people liked it very much. Macao's "Lotus Culture" is rich and colorful, and there are many folk arts with lotus as the theme. For example, there is a daily couplet: "Flowers greet the sea, and lotus peaks rest." On June 24th, 20001,the first Lotus Festival was held in Macau.

In fact, "Lotus Island" is also the ancient name and alias of Macao. The Macao Peninsula is surrounded by the sea on three sides, and there is a 250-meter-long narrow sand dike connected to the mainland in the north. Ancient poets compared it to a lotus flower reaching out to the sea, and the narrow part connecting the mainland was the lotus stem, so it was called "Lotus Island".
