Art college has experienced the road of starting a business from scratch, from small to large, from weak to strong. Art College is the first college in Yunnan Normal University to move to Longquan Road New District as a whole. At that time, the conditions for running a school were extremely difficult. Sunny days are gray and rainy days are muddy. Liao Liao set up several piano rooms and studios, and designed and transformed his own photography laboratory and digital drawing classroom. It laid the foundation for the establishment of only two undergraduate majors (art design and musicology). At that time, there were only 18 full-time teachers, and there were 1 person for teachers with deputy senior titles or above. Teachers are mainly undergraduates who graduated from Yunnan Arts University and Southwest Normal University. Today, the Art College has its own independent teaching building, covering an area of nearly 7,000 square meters, with 60 full-time teachers, 2 1.66% teachers with associate high titles and 25% teachers with master's degrees. In 2006, it also achieved a breakthrough of "zero" for doctoral teachers. The seven-year school-running course of the college is also the seven-year discipline construction and specialty construction. From the initial two undergraduate majors (art design and musicology) to five, art, dance and art education have been increased. In 2003, we achieved a breakthrough of "zero" master's degree with Yunnan Art College. "Fine Arts" and "Musicology" are key disciplines at the school level.

There are more than 820 undergraduates and more than 40 graduate students in five undergraduate majors in the Art College.

Great changes have taken place in the academic structure of college teachers, including master's and doctoral students from Central Academy of Fine Arts, Minzu University of China, China Conservatory of Music, Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts, Sichuan Conservatory of Music, sichuan fine arts institute, Yunnan University, Nanjing Art Institute, Kunming University of Science and Technology, Chongqing University and Northwest Normal University. The Development Plan of School Art Education in Yunnan Province (200 1 ~ 20 10) points out: "The main tasks of art education in ordinary art normal colleges are to train and bring up art teachers suitable for the development of art education in Yunnan Province, highlight the nature of teachers in curriculum and teaching content, link up with art education and teaching in primary and secondary schools in this province, train students who are qualified for art teaching in primary and secondary schools, and intensify reform and innovation. ..... Starting from the reality of the reform and development of basic education, the major of art teachers in colleges and universities should reform the curriculum, structure and content, reduce the categories of courses, expand the professional caliber, and enhance the comprehensiveness and practicality of courses. ..... In view of the fact that there is a serious shortage of art teachers in rural primary and secondary schools in Yunnan Province and the level of art education is lagging behind, we should popularize the successful experience of art courses (music and art) as the main and minor courses, and further explore new modes and new ways to cultivate composite art teachers in rural primary and secondary schools. "On the basis of constantly stabilizing and improving the three traditional normal majors of musicology, dance and fine arts, the Art College strives to build a new major of' art education' and broaden and innovate the training mode of art teachers in basic education in Yunnan. The new major of "Art Education" is the outstanding achievement of the "new round of teaching reform" (key project) of Yunnan Normal University in 2003. The new major of art education has broken through the closed situation of traditional art majors, made full use of the existing teachers and equipment resources of the college, and made great efforts to create a new major for cultivating compound art teachers by integrating three disciplines: music, art and dance, and newly opened courses such as Chinese and Western art history, Chinese and Western art education history and performance theory and practice. The latter should not only learn traditional courses such as sketch and color, but also learn courses such as vocal music foundation and folk dance. It has created good conditions for the implementation of the new curriculum standard of art courses, and has been affirmed by relevant leaders and teachers in primary and secondary schools, which has had a certain impact both inside and outside the province. Under the guidance of professional teachers, students of art education grade 05 performed the first original musical of Yunnan college students, and their professional comprehensive ability was further improved. According to the characteristics that art majors emphasize practice and innovation, the college constantly expands the space of students' "second class".
