Art college has experienced the road of starting a business from scratch, from small to large, from weak to strong. Art College is the first college in Yunnan Normal University to move to Longquan Road New District as a whole. At that time, the conditions for running a school were extremely difficult. Sunny days are gray and rainy days are muddy. Liao Liao set up several piano rooms and studios, and designed and transformed his own photography laboratory and digital drawing classroom. It laid the foundation for the establishment of only two undergraduate majors (art design and musicology). At that time, there were only 18 full-time teachers, and there were 1 person for teachers with deputy senior titles or above. Teachers are mainly undergraduates who graduated from Yunnan Arts University and Southwest Normal University. Today, the Art College has its own independent teaching building, covering an area of nearly 7,000 square meters, with 60 full-time teachers, 2 1.66% teachers with associate high titles and 25% teachers with master's degrees. In 2006, it also achieved a breakthrough of "zero" for doctoral teachers. The seven-year school-running course of the college is also the seven-year discipline construction and specialty construction. From the initial two undergraduate majors (art design and musicology) to five, art, dance and art education have been increased. In 2003, we achieved a breakthrough of "zero" master's degree with Yunnan Art College. "Fine Arts" and "Musicology" are key disciplines at the school level.

There are more than 820 undergraduates and more than 40 graduate students in five undergraduate majors in the Art College.

"On the basis of constantly stabilizing and improving the three traditional normal majors of musicology, dance and fine arts, the Art College strives to build a new major of' art education' and broaden and innovate the training mode of art teachers in basic education in Yunnan. The new major of "Art Education" is the outstanding achievement of the "new round of teaching reform" (key project) of Yunnan Normal University in 2003. The new major of art education has broken through the closed situation of traditional art majors, made full use of the existing teachers and equipment resources of the college, and made great efforts to create a new major for cultivating compound art teachers by integrating three disciplines: music, art and dance, and newly opened courses such as Chinese and Western art history, Chinese and Western art education history and performance theory and practice.
