On December 29, 1996, the club was renamed Hubei Wuhan Yaqi Professional Football Club, and Wuhan Yaqi became the first privately owned football club in China.
In 1997, Wuhan Yaqi team won the annual A-B championship, and Hubei finally had its own A-A team. A few days before the start of the 1998 A-League, Wuyan Group invested 3.8 million yuan to buy out the naming rights of Yaqi for the 1998 season, and the team was renamed Wuhan Red Golden Dragons. However, in September of that year, before the league ended, Yaqi Group announced its decision to transfer part or all of the club's equity. On November 15, 1998, the signing ceremony for the equity transfer from Yaqi Group to Heart K Group, East Lake High-tech Group, and East Lake Development Zone Corporation was held. At this point, the Heart K Group has taken up the banner of Hubei football and has become the fourth owner after Wuhan Iron and Steel, Melya and Yaqi since the professionalization of Hubei football.
In 1999, the Wuhan Hearts K team was relegated to League B. On December 10 of the same year, the club was renamed Hubei Wuhan Professional Football Club, and on December 7, 2000, it was renamed Hubei Wuhan Hearts K. Professional football club. In the 2001 season, "Red Golden Dragon" sponsored Hubei football again. "Red Golden Dragon" bought the naming rights of the Wuhan Heart K Club for 7 million yuan.
In 2002, the Red Golden Dragon withdrew from the title of K Club of Hearts. With the active mediation of relevant parties, in March of that year, "East Lake High-tech" surfaced. "East Lake High-tech" is not named after a certain company, but is named after Renfu Technology, East Lake High-tech Group, Wuhan High-tech State-owned Holding Group, Jinglun Electronics, Luxiang Plaza Shopping Center, Heart K Group, etc. in the East Lake Development Zone. A complex formed by two companies that will provide funding to the team in the new season. In July 2002, Wuhan Guoche Technology Co., Ltd. stepped in and invested in purchasing the team's naming rights. Wuhan East Lake High-tech Team was renamed as Wuhan National Test High-tech Team. In the 2003 season, the Wuhan team’s title sponsor added Blue Star Computer, and the Wuhan football team was renamed Wuhan National Test Blue Star Team.
After the 2003 season, Heart K Group withdrew from Wuhan Football Club after five years of operation. In early 2004, Wuhan Football Club re-organized into a joint-stock company. The Wuhan East Lake New Technology Development Zone Management Committee invested in the establishment of Wuhan Optics Valley Construction Investment Co., Ltd. and became the club's largest shareholder. Other shareholders include Wuhan Hi-Tech State-owned Holding Group, Wuhan Sports School, and Xinhua Road Stadium. The registered capital has also increased from the past adjusted from 25 million yuan to 50 million yuan. Shen Liefeng, general manager of Optics Valley Investment Company, became the chairman of the club, and Wuhan Hearts K Professional Football Club was eventually changed to Hubei Wuhan Professional Football Club Co., Ltd.
In 2004 and 2005, Wuhan Yellow Crane Tower Liquor Group named the Wuhan team, and the Wuhan team changed its name to Wuhan Yellow Crane Tower team and started a new journey.
