Where is the historical Dangyang Bridge?

Dangyang Bridge is located in the northeast of Yuyang Town, Dangyang County, Yichang City, on the south side of Jiaozhi Railway and on the Jingdang Highway.

Dangyang Bridge, also known as Baling Bridge, formerly known as Guanqiao and Guanqiao, was the place where officials were greeted in the old days. Because Zhang Yide, commander-in-chief of Shu State, broke the bridge here during the Three Kingdoms period, it is also called the land of cross spears. According to local legend, there used to be a dam here, and there was a temple of Zhang Zhao on the dam, hence the name Baling Bridge.

In the autumn of the thirteenth year of Jian 'an in the Eastern Han Dynasty, Cao Cao raised more than 500,000 troops and trapped Liu Bei in Dangyang. In the melee, Liu Bei abandoned his wife and led the crowd to escape. Zhang Fei led more than 20 riders to Baling Bridge. When he saw Cao Jun following him, he immediately crossed the bridge and shouted, "I'm from Zhang Yide. Who dares to fight to the death with me? " The sound was like thunder, and the enemy dared not approach. After Jun retreated, Zhang Yide demolished the small bridge. The story of Zhang Fei's broken bridge with water flowing backwards has spread to this day and is famous at home and abroad. Because the bridge is in Dangyang, it is also called "Dangyang Bridge" in history.
