To study the mechanism of protein ubiquitination modification in regulating cell division, DNA damage repair, metabolism and other aspects closely related to tumor occurrence and development, to find new tumor treatment targets, and to write relevant research papers and publish them in high-level journals.

Professor Zhang Pumin, a tenured professor at Baylor Medical College in the United States, joined the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University Medical College as a high-end talent in 2020. Professor Zhang has long been engaged in research on cell division regulation, DNA damage repair, chromosome instability and so on, which are closely related to tumor occurrence and development. In recent years, a series of new tumor therapeutic targets have been found through large-scale screening of tumor-killing genes.

Professor Zhang first expounded the role of inhibitor p2 1 in p53 regulation of cell cycle and its role in embryonic development. P57 is the pathogenic gene of Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome, aneuploid checkpoint and its role in tumorigenesis were discovered, homologous recombination cloning technology was developed, which laid the foundation for large-scale preparation of knockout mice, and genetic screening was carried out in mammalian embryos for the first time. After returning to China, Professor Zhang focused on the mechanism of tumor genome instability, initiated the development of CRISPR technology, prepared human albumin gene and knocked it into domestic pigs to realize commercial transformation, which provided a new source for human albumin in short supply in China. In recent years, Professor Zhang led the team to discover new tumor therapeutic targets, constructed a drug gene sgRNA library, initiated large-scale tumor lethal gene screening, and found a series of tumor cell-specific essential genes, which are ideal therapeutic targets.

Professor Zhang has published more than 80 SCI papers in internationally renowned journals such as Nature(IF:43.07) and Cancercell(IF:23.92), among which the impact factor of a single paper is 43.07.
