A local student on the stormy job search road in a military academy.
February 25, 2003 is a special day, because after more than 90 days and nights of suffering, my employment agreement was finally signed. Looking back on the bumpy road and looking at the similar painful experiences of my peers, I have an impulse to record this job-hunting road in words.
I am a local student in a military school, and I belong to the national unified recruitment entrusted by the local military school. Although I studied in a military school, I accepted militarized management and unified military uniforms during my school days, but I did not enjoy military treatment. More importantly, after graduation, I was not included in the distribution, and I implemented two-way choice and chose my own job. It can be said that among many job-seeking graduates, it is a special group. It is precisely because of this particularity that I have various inconveniences and sometimes even great obstacles in my job search.
Due to the strict management of military schools, we rarely contact with the outside world, and the information is relatively blocked. Especially as local military academy students, we are not only small in number, but also have a sense of group isolation for other military academy students because of our own particularity. Although the school attaches great importance to us, due to lack of experience and some policy reasons, our employment guidance cannot be as flexible and comprehensive as that of local colleges and universities. So that this year's exchange meeting of security talents is only three days away, and we students in local military academies have just learned it. I stayed up in a hurry for three nights and finally took out my first job application materials two hours before the job fair started.
It was165438+1October 30th, and the sky was clear in Wan Li, but my heart was always uneasy. Looking at the dense crowd of job seekers and facing the hustle and bustle of many graduates, I can't help but feel a little scared. Can I compete with these local college graduates? In addition, my major is law and I attended a special job fair for high-tech enterprises, which made me even more uncertain. Although I am not confident, I am not unprepared. So I walked into the job fair with a try mentality.
The crowded crowd and suffocating air in the hall made me feel inexplicably timid. After all, this is my first time to attend a job fair. Sure enough, as I expected, many booths are law majors, and few of them are. Occasionally, there are requirements for master's degree or above or judicial qualification certificate. Thinking that if there is no suitable position in a big recruitment venue, I will be even more depressed, so I withdrew and left. Coincidentally, I suddenly met two female students of our team at the entrance of the venue (the establishment of the military school is not a class, but a team). It was such an accidental meeting that changed my job search career. They asked me what was going on inside and whether there were many recruiting units. I waved helplessly, revealing a depressed face. They are anxious when they hear it. They almost shouted to me that you are excellent in our team and have a good resume. If you feel hopeless, stop talking about us. Under their shoving and "teaching", I had to bite the bullet and walk back to the meeting. Finally, a bright spot was found among many recruitment units, namely the recruitment secretary of Haisheng Company. I can't help secretly blaming myself: I have worked as a part-time clerk in school for nearly four years (called local secretary in the army), and I am still very experienced in secretarial work. Why have I been drilling in the legal circle? I didn't expect the process of submitting my resume to go smoothly, which is also a resume I submitted at the job fair. Unexpectedly, this vote actually decided the direction and focus of my job search in the future.
Then I waited anxiously for the interview notice from Haisheng Company. During this period, my job search did not stop. A classmate of Chang 'an University told me that there was a talent exchange meeting in their school to recruit college students to join the army. I am very excited to learn the news. Being a soldier has always been my dream.
After some preparation, I came to the recruitment site of Chang 'an University. I found that the number of job seekers is not less than that of previous job fairs. It seems that joining the army is also an ideal choice for many graduates. After a turn, only Dalian Naval Academy recruited liberal arts students. I looked at their recruitment conditions, and compared with local college students, my confidence suddenly increased. Four years of military school life is an advantage in itself, plus their priority admission conditions: party member, outstanding student cadres, three excellent students and so on. It seems that this recruitment is very promising. I got the physical examination form successfully. The admissions staff quietly told me that as long as they passed the medical examination, there was basically no problem. The physical examination in the hospital went smoothly. I think I can lie on my pillow and wait for the signing of the agreement. As the saying goes, "everything is ready, only the east wind is needed"! However, what I never expected was that things changed dramatically at the last minute. It turned out that after the admissions staff faxed our materials (together with two students in the team) to Dalian Shipyard, Dalian replied: Because you are not graduates of local colleges in a strict sense, according to the relevant regulations of the naval system, students trained by the army are not allowed. This is really a big blow to me. I didn't expect all the troops to reject us. The excitement of these days suddenly fell to a low point, and it was dark at present. I felt desperate for the first time. Even today, whenever I see naval cadets who come to our school for further study, an inexplicable pain will always come to my mind.
One door closes and the other opens. A week later, I received a written notice from Haisheng Company. Last night, I logged into the company's website, downloaded some important materials and printed them for reference in the exam. Facts have also proved that my preparation is correct. There was a lot about the corporate culture of Haisheng Company in that written test, and few people could answer it, but I did it and answered it well.
There are 15 written examiners for secretarial posts, but there is only one quota, and most of them are girls. After all, in everyone's mind, secretaries are mostly women, and these 15 people are selected from many resumes, so the intensity of competition can be imagined.
The written test questions are not very difficult, and the comprehensive ability test is combined with professional evaluation. The two-hour exam took me only one hour to complete, and I was the first to hand it in. I gave the answer sheet to the person in charge of the exam. He read my answer carefully, and judging from his expression, my answer satisfied him. After all, I won an award in the college calligraphy competition. Whether the answer is right or wrong, the neatness of the paper and the basic skills of calligraphy are impressive. He asked me to use the computer to make an interview evaluation form and draft an appointment notice. I think it must be a test of my office automation level and familiarity with official document format. I am secretly happy: fortunately, I have done documentation for four years, and it is only natural to do these things as a "professional counterpart". Later, I learned from my conversation with him that he is the assistant to the general manager and the director of the office, and he is the immediate supervisor of the position I requested. He said that he was impressed when he read my resume, and he paid special attention to me in this written test. Just now, he was deliberately testing my practical ability and verifying the truth described in my resume.
The second round of interview is the responsibility of the deputy general manager in charge of personnel. In the third round, the general manager is in charge of the interview. Throughout the interview, I went smoothly and felt good about myself. And every time I go to the company for an interview, the office director will talk to me for a while. He made it clear that he wanted me to be his assistant in the future, and revealed that several departments were vying for me. I thought this job was basically settled. Personally, I also think that Haisheng Company's strength and development prospects are very good, so I have made a lot of preparations and efforts, and also gave up the opportunity to sign contracts with other units. My intention is very firm, and I have begun to look forward to a bright future. However, what I never expected happened. Although I tried to tell myself that it might be a nightmare, the truth is the truth after all, and I lost the election!
I can't describe my feelings at that time in words. Despair, frustration, helplessness, ... haven't walked out of the shadow of Dalian Shipyard. It was another bolt from the blue, and I almost completely lost my confidence. No ... I tried to recall every detail of the interview and tried to find an explanation for myself, but I was frustrated again and again. The interview process has been smooth, with almost no mistakes, and the office director in charge of recruitment also appreciates me. How did this happen? I'm confused.
Later, when my mood gradually calmed down, I sent an email to the director of the office and wrote another letter. On the surface, I thank him for his concern and recommendation for my interview. In fact, the most important thing is that I want to know the reason why I lost the election.
Later, it was winter vacation. I don't know if this letter worked or other reasons ... The director of the company office called my mobile phone and asked me to go to the company. So I asked him why he failed in the interview. His explanation really surprised me. The original problem is the same as Dalian Naval Academy. The company expressed doubts about the gold content of local students' diplomas in military academies. After reading my course, they were surprised by the four-year course of the whole school. Obviously, it is a law major, but the curriculum is not only chaotic, but also quite a lot of unrelated courses. Then they expressed doubts about the quality of local students in military schools. In addition, the company has never contacted such students before, and I don't know what kind of students they are. For various reasons, although I haven't found anything inappropriate, I still brushed me. Hearing this explanation, I really want to cry. After all, students in local military academies learn from the practices of ordinary military academies in many aspects. Therefore, the curriculum will inevitably be different from local colleges and universities. In addition, the number of group activities will make the curriculum somewhat confusing, but will these affect the substantive quality of local students in military schools? Aren't local students in military schools college students? Isn't it an undergraduate degree recognized by the Ministry of Education?
After these two failures, on the one hand, I summed up my experience and lessons, on the other hand, I actively contacted the relevant departments of the school to report these situations. After hearing this, the school attached great importance to it, and immediately organized a special person to make employment recommendation letters for us, and introduced in detail the relevant information and special advantages of local students in our military colleges, and the special person was responsible for leading us to apply at various job fairs. When you have company problems, explain patiently. At the same time, the school also actively contacted relevant units for us, and tried its best to recommend American local military academy students to the society in order to win the favor of more employers. "It is difficult to sharpen a gun at the last minute, and it is difficult to be unhappy." Through the active efforts of the school, we have gradually been recognized by many units and the employment situation has begun to improve.
Near the winter vacation, I attended a special job fair organized by Changshu City, Jiangsu Province. The company that received my resume in this recruitment is a foreign-funded enterprise. The general manager of the company is responsible for the recruitment, and the position I applied for is his secretary. The interview will be held at the Tang Cheng Hotel where he is staying. This interview was conducted by chatting. Influenced by the military academy for a long time, I had a very speculative talk with the general manager at that time, and he was very satisfied with me. Later, I received a formal notice from the company that I could go to the company for an internship in March 2003. For the first time, I feel that I have many advantages that others don't.
However, because the unit is too far away, I am not satisfied, and on the other hand, I am not afraid to stand up, so I only stayed at home for a few days in the winter vacation and came to school early to continue looking for a job. There were a lot of job fairs in February, just as Ye Shengtao wrote in "Beating 35 Fighters Indiscriminately". Get up early every morning and rush to attend one exchange meeting after another, hoping to sell myself at a "good price". It is no exaggeration to say that in those days, when I saw the word "recruitment", I would stop and wait and see. However, although my personal conditions are still relatively good, the employer always looks strange and suspicious when he sees the words I am a local student in a military school. Finally, no unit signed a contract with me.
Where there is a will, there is a way. After many failures and setbacks, many cold eyes and ridicule, I managed to sign a contract with a company. This unit is the Institute of Ordnance Industry. Many of them have been trained in our school before, and professors from our college often come here to give lectures. Therefore, in this application process, everything seems quite smooth. In particular, this unit used to be a military unit, and now it still has obvious military color, which is very consistent with my dream of being a soldier since I was a child. In this way, I strengthened my confidence and formally signed the work agreement. When I signed the last name, my heart could not help cheering: I finally found a job.
Looking back on my job-hunting experience, I also feel a lot. Because local students in military schools are new things, many units don't understand them. Every time I go to the unit for an interview, I almost always explain the same question, such as "What is a local student in a military school?" Why are you looking for a job when you are in a military school? "and so on. Despite my repeated explanations, they still feel puzzled and unintelligible. Especially sometimes we have to wear military uniforms to interview in order to hurry. Every time the recruiting unit is surprised, it even stares at us. In fact, many military colleges and universities have advantages in technical teachers that some local colleges and universities do not have. Studying in a regular military school is equivalent to studying in a key university. In addition to learning more solid knowledge and skills, it also has the comprehensive quality similar to that of military cadets. Four years of military school life has cultivated our indomitable will, the cooperative spirit of unity and mutual assistance, and the discipline concept of guarding against arrogance and rashness. It should be said that we have greater advantages than ordinary local colleges. Only in the face of this new thing, students from local military academies, many units finally turned us out for careful consideration. Seeing that my classmates are still busy with their work, I can't help feeling: when can I get a suitable position in our military school?
