The predecessor of the school can be traced back to Sichuan Zhongshu Academy, which was established in 1905. After many reforms and mergers, it was formally established as China West Normal University in 1978, upgraded to an ordinary undergraduate college in 2000, and renamed as China West Normal University in 20 17.
