You may not use the electronic social security card, as follows:

1. Electronic social security card is an effective electronic certificate for online application of social security card, which has one-to-one correspondence with the entity social security card and only mapping. Issued by the National Social Security Card Platform and managed by Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. The electronic social security card, like the entity social security card, is unified and universal in the whole country, and has the functions of identification, information recording, self-inquiry, medical insurance settlement, payment and treatment collection, financial payment and so on.

2. The electronic social security card will be organically applied online and offline in the fields of human society, government public services and finance. Focus on promoting the application of business scenarios such as online inquiry of social security rights and interests records, online payment and settlement of medical treatment and drug purchase, online payment of insurance, online certification of professional qualifications, and online vouchers for public services of human society.

Legal basis: Article 57 of the Social Insurance Law of People's Republic of China (PRC).

The employing unit shall, within 30 days from the date of its establishment, apply to the local social insurance agency for social insurance registration with its business license, registration certificate or unit seal. The social insurance agency shall, within fifteen days from the date of receiving the application, examine and issue the social insurance registration certificate.

Where the social insurance registration items of the employing unit are changed or the employing unit is terminated according to law, it shall, within 30 days from the date of change or termination, go to the social insurance agency to handle the change or cancellation of social insurance registration.

The market supervision and management department, the civil affairs department and the organization management organ shall promptly inform the social insurance agency of the establishment and termination of the employing unit, and the public security organ shall promptly inform the social insurance agency of the birth, death, household registration, migration and cancellation of the individual.
