At present, the function of medical insurance card has been replaced by social security card.

The first thing a cardholder needs to do when their Social Security card is lost is to pre-loss it in order to prevent the loss of funds from the Medicare account in the Social Security card. Cardholders can call the social security card service hotline "12333" (24-hour service) for telephone pre-loss. The cardholder can also go to the social security card service outlets with his/her resident identity card or household register to apply for a written pre-loss procedure, or he/she can directly pre-loss his/her social security card on the social security card self-service terminals set up by the social security card service outlets and the designated medical institutions of the second level or above. Pre-loss is valid for 5-10 days and will be automatically canceled after the valid time limit.

After the pre-loss, if the lost person determines that the social security card is lost and cannot be recovered, he/she needs to go to the social security card service outlets with his/her own resident ID card to make an official loss, and at the same time, go through the procedure of replacing the card, and pay the cost of card production. Generally within 30 working days, the person applying for the replacement card will go to the social security card service outlets to collect the replacement social security card with his/her resident ID card or household register and the "Certificate of New Issue and Replacement (Replacement) of Social Security Card" (referred to as: "Certificate of Receipt of Card").

After the official loss is processed, the revocation of the loss cannot be processed again.
