Can social security cards be used locally in different counties

Foreign social security card generally can not be used locally.

The social security card of the People's Republic of China (PRC) is an integrated circuit (IC) card used in various business fields of human resources and social security, which is uniformly planned by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, and issued by human resources and social security departments of various places for the society.

Those issued to urban workers, the unemployed and the retired are called social security (personal) cards, while those issued to employers are called social security (employer) cards. The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security said it will take about five years to make social security cards generally have financial functions.

The social security card has a wide range of functions. Cardholders can not only use the card for medical treatment for medical insurance personal account real-time settlement, but also for pension insurance affairs; for job search registration and unemployment registration procedures, claim unemployment insurance benefits, apply for employment training; apply for labor capacity assessment and claim enjoyment of work-related injury insurance benefits; in the online labor and social security affairs, and so on.

The social security card adopts a unified national standard, and the social security number adopts the civil identity number in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Social Insurance Law.
