What is the level of social security implemented in China at this stage?

Since the early 1980s, the Chinese Government has undertaken a series of reforms of the social security system. The goal of the reforms is: to establish a social security system that is independent of enterprises and institutions, with diversified sources of funding, a standardized system of protection, and socialized management services. Its main features are: basic protection, extensive coverage, multiple levels, and gradual unification.

China's social security level is 11 percent, and the main items of China's social insurance include old-age social insurance, medical social insurance, unemployment insurance, work-related injury insurance, and maternity insurance, collectively known as the "five insurance".

What is China's current social security system? China's current social security system includes social insurance, social relief, social welfare, social welfare and the basic livelihood protection and re-employment of laid-off workers in state-owned enterprises. Among them, social insurance includes five programs: pension insurance, medical insurance, unemployment insurance, work injury insurance and maternity insurance. It does not include the publicly-funded medical system.

Compatible with the level of economic development, the basic guarantees mandatorily established by the State mainly meet people's basic living needs; social security gradually covers all citizens; in addition to the basic guarantees, the State actively promotes the development of other forms of protection, striving to form a multi-level social security system; and a unified national social security system is gradually implemented through reform and development.

Article 2 of the Social Insurance Law of the People's Republic of China (PRC) The State establishes a social insurance system for basic old-age pension insurance, basic medical insurance, industrial injury insurance, unemployment insurance, maternity insurance and other social insurance, and guarantees the right of citizens to obtain material assistance from the State and society in accordance with the law in the event of old age, sickness, industrial injury, unemployment and childbirth.
