Scattered reimbursement of medical expenses:

1. Medical expenses incurred by insured persons whose medical relations are in Shanghai for emergency treatment in medical institutions in other provinces and cities, medical expenses incurred in Shanghai for pre-hospital emergency treatment, and emergency medical expenses incurred during the period when the Social Security Card or the Medical Card is reported as damaged or lost.

2. Outpatient and emergency medical fees, emergency observation and inpatient medical fees incurred in the place of residence of the insured person whose medical relationship is in a foreign province or city.

If an employed employee is sent by his/her unit to work in a foreign city or province for a long period of time, he/she can apply for the transfer of medical relationship to a neighboring county or district medical insurance center with his/her ID card, social security card or medical insurance card, as well as the relevant certificates issued by his/her unit. After reviewing and approving by the district and county health insurance centers, the relevant procedures will be carried out.

After going through the formalities, the employee can apply for sporadic reimbursement of medical expenses incurred in foreign provinces and cities at the neighboring county medical insurance centers.

If an active employee's medical relationship has been transferred to a foreign province or city and then transferred back to Shanghai by his/her employer, he/she can apply for the transfer of the medical relationship to a neighboring county health insurance center with his/her own ID card, social security card or health insurance card.

Before going through the procedure of transferring the medical relationship back to the city, the employee should complete the procedure of reimbursement of medical expenses incurred in foreign provinces and cities.
