The Open University of China was founded in 1960 and is the earliest television university in the country. Wu Han, the then deputy mayor of Beijing and a famous historian, was the school’s first principal.
In 2012, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Beijing Radio and Television University was officially renamed Beijing Open University.

The nursing major is limited to on-the-job health technicians who have graduated from a nursing college and hold a nurse practitioner qualification certificate.
Pharmacy major enrollment is limited to technical personnel in the health and pharmaceutical industries.
Enrollment is limited to people working and living in Beijing.
