CILS certificate (certificate of Italian as a foreign language)

CILS is useful for those who study Italian, those who work and study in the Italian environment, and those who want to evaluate their Italian ability. Each CILS level represents communication skills in different environments and situations.

CILS exams are held twice a year at the University of Siena and other overseas institutions, in June and February respectively. This certificate is recognized by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is also a requirement for most Italian universities to admit new students.
