The more authoritative French exams include TCF and TEF:
1. TEF is a test method developed by the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
It measures the candidate's ability through a transitional ladder from beginner level to advanced level (from 0 to 900 points, divided into 7 scoring levels, corresponding to the 6 reference levels determined by the European Commission) Whether they use French to reflect their cultural knowledge and professional level. This test can accurately evaluate the French level of the test taker. TEF scores are valid for one year.
After taking this exam, candidates will receive a French proficiency certificate issued by the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This certificate is recognized by French universities and colleges and universities, and accordingly recommends appropriate study courses to applicants. TEF scores have now become one of the reference conditions for French companies to recruit overseas employees.
The TEF test is divided into three parts: listening, reading and grammar. The exam lasts for 150 minutes and the total score is 900 points. To enter the TEF examination room, you must study French for at least 500 hours. At the same time, the French Embassy in China also has requirements for this. Applicants for studying abroad often need to provide proof of more than 500 hours of French study in addition to TEF scores.
2. TCF (Test de Connaissance du Fran?ais) is the French knowledge test of the French International Education Research Center and is a French test of the French Ministry of Education.
This is a standardized test of French language proficiency. It is designed in an extremely strict manner and is a very effective assessment method. The test is open to all non-French native speakers who, for professional or personal reasons, wish to measure their knowledge of French in a simple, reliable and valid way. The TCF exam consists of required items and supplementary items. The full TCF exam measures French proficiency level.
The test scores show candidates where their French proficiency is at one of six levels, based on Council of Europe standards.
TCF’s test scores are recognized by ALTE (Association for European Language Testing). The alliance collaborated with the French Center for International Educational Research in May 2002 to design this exam corresponding to Cambridge's IELTS and German DAF. For candidates who currently register for the French proficiency test on the CELA website, the CELA center can designate the candidates to register for the TEF test or the TCF test based on specific circumstances such as whether the candidate needs to go to France to study language courses. Therefore, candidates do not know which exam they are signing up for at the beginning of their registration. They need to receive an official notification from the CELA website after registration to confirm which exam (TEF OUT TCF) they need to attend.
The complete TCF exam consists of three required parts and two optional parts.
All parts of the exam total three hours.
The compulsory part of the test lasts for one and a half hours, in the form of multiple choice, with 80 questions per day, involving oral comprehension (30 questions - 25 minutes); on language structure Mastery (Grammar and Vocabulary) (20 questions – 20 minutes); Reading Comprehension (30 questions – 45 minutes).
The optional parts include: an essay (analyzing some data and demonstrating a certain point of view), time limit is one hour and forty-five minutes. ; 15-minute speaking test.
The form of the results is as follows: the total score of the compulsory part is 699, which is divided into levels from one to six; each ability is awarded a score and a level assessment (oral comprehension ability, language structure and Reading comprehension ability); the total score of composition is 20; the total score of oral expression is 20.
The grading of all examination papers is carried out at CIEP. The required parts of the exam are marked by machine. The supplementary oral test results and writing test papers will be reviewed twice by specially qualified examiners.
TCF scores are divided into 6 levels, from "beginner" to "advanced", all based on the general standards for language learning and teaching established by the European Commission. This common standard is adopted by ALTE, the European Association for Language Testing (of which CIEP is a member).
All students who wish to enter the first year of a French higher education institution must pass the TCF proficiency examination, provided they also pass the written examination required for pre-admission.
