I immigrated to Canada. What's the procedure if I want to get married in China?

The most popular type of family guarantee is spouse application. As the name implies, the Canadian guarantor (who can be a permanent resident or citizen of Canada) can apply for the guarantee formalities after legally marrying the spouse who has been married overseas.

Before the guarantee, it should be noted that Canadian permanent residents or citizens returning to China for marriage registration, regardless of whether their household registration or ID card remains in China, must apply for a "single certificate" in Canada before returning to China for marriage registration. The following procedures must be followed and are indispensable:

1. If Canadian citizens and China citizens living in Canada want to get married in China, they must abide by the laws of China. According to the relevant provisions of the Marriage Law of the People's Republic of China, men are 22 years old and women are 20 years old.

2. Canadian citizens and China citizens living in Canada who want to get married in China must provide (1) their valid Canadian passports and visas to China to the local China Marriage Registry. If you are a Canadian citizen, you must provide immigration documents in China. (2) A health check-up certificate issued by the hospital designated by the marriage registration authority in China upon arrival in China. (3) Submit the completed Canadian single certificate, including name, gender, date and place of birth, nationality, valid identity document and number, occupation and economic source, and marital status (unmarried, widowed or divorced). Widowed persons must be accompanied by a death certificate. Divorce must be accompanied by a court divorce judgment. Divorce judgments of foreign courts must be approved by China courts (Chinese translation is required). The marriage inquiry record issued by the Canadian Household Registration Office cannot be regarded as a single certificate, but can only be used as an attachment to the single certificate.

3. China citizens and Canadian nationals living in Ontario and Manitoba, Canada, must be notarized by Canadian lawyers or notaries, certified by the Cabinet Administration Department of Ontario or the Governor's Office of Manitoba, and then sent to the consulate of China for certification.

Time required for documents: Generally, it takes five working days to go through the formalities of document authentication in China Consulate. In case of special circumstances, it needs urgent treatment and extra urgent expenses, and it will be picked up on the same day.

Validity period of single certificate: it must be sent to the consulate for certification within three months from the date of notarization. Marriage must be registered within six months from the date of certification by the consulate, otherwise it will be invalid. The waiting time of the whole procedure varies from two weeks to four weeks, so the bride and groom who plan to go back to China to register for marriage must have enough time to prepare.
