Why is Maoming’s GDP higher than Zhuhai’s but lagging behind?

I think this problem has three aspects. The first aspect is that the direction of industrial development is different. Maoming is a well-known heavy industry city. The famous ones include Maoming Petrochemical and Maoming Ethylene Plant, etc. These factories alone It will increase Maoming’s GDP by several levels. But Zhuhai is exactly the opposite of Maoming. Zhuhai is a famous light industry city. Zhuhai's tourism and service industries are very developed, but the output value of light industry is far less than that of heavy industry, so Zhuhai's GDP is not as high as Maoming's. But generally speaking, cities with developed light industries are more advanced, so although Maoming has a higher GDP than Zhuhai, it lags behind Zhuhai.

The second aspect is the total population. As far as I know, the permanent population of Maoming is larger than that of Zhuhai, which means that there are more people making money in Maoming, and so on. If there are more people making money, Maoming's total GDP will rise, but Maoming's per capita GDP is not high. That is to say, although there are many people making money in Maoming, each person does not earn much, so Maoming's economy Development is still relatively lagging behind. In comparison, Zhuhai is more developed. Zhuhai has a small permanent population, but its total GDP is not very low, which means that its per capita income is higher than Maoming. Looking at it this way, although Maoming has a higher GDP than Zhuhai, it lags behind Zhuhai. Moreover, Zhuhai is a second-tier city and Maoming is a fourth-tier city.

The third aspect is that Maoming’s lower counties are very powerful. Just their own lower counties can produce a lot of output value in a year, which is equivalent to a small town expanding a large county. Second, Zhuhai is developing very well, while Xia County may be relatively backward in development, thus lowering Zhuhai's overall GDP. But when comparing two cities as to which one is more developed, that is to say, regardless of the development of the county, Zhuhai will naturally be more advanced. Therefore, although Maoming has a higher GDP than Zhuhai, it still lags behind Zhuhai.
