What are the procedures for undergraduate transfer in the United States?

Internal transfer procedures in our school

School transfer, such as changing majors (for example, from MS to PHD) or changing departments. At this time, you must apply to the school to transfer to an American university, so as to avoid losing your identity in the future because the Immigration Department thinks that you failed to complete your studies within the scheduled time limit.

The transfer procedure is roughly as follows:

1. Please ask the International Student Advisor (ISA) of the International Student Office (ISO) of the school to issue a new I-20, namely I-20 A-B.

2. After you fill in the student certificate on I-20, you should hand over the old and new I-20 to ISA within 15 days after the start of the new semester.

3.ISA will give you pages 3 and 4 of I-20 after signing;

4.ISA should indicate on I-20 that "students have transferred from xx project to xx project of the same institution" or "transfer to school has been completed";

5.ISA will send the first page and the second page to the immigration office within 30 days after getting the I-20.

Transfer procedures between different American universities

After finishing your studies in the original school and getting a degree, you want to study for a degree in a different school, whether you want to continue the same major or a different major. You must complete the transfer procedures of American universities according to the following procedures:

1. Apply for transfer and obtain a valid admission permit;

2. Show your transfer intention to the ISO of the original school and tell him which school you want to transfer to. After receiving your transfer intention, the original school will change your record in SEVIS system to "transfer out", and indicate the school you want to transfer to and the release date.

3. Within 15 days after the start of the new school course, contact the ISA of the new school and hand over the new and old I-20 to the ISO of the new school.

4. After you register for a new school course, ISA will update your SEVIS status and information, indicating that you have successfully transferred, and give you the third and fourth pages of I-20.

5. Within 30 days after receiving the I-20 submitted by the students, ISA will submit the first and second pages of I-20 to the data processing center of the Immigration Bureau and copy them to the ISA of the original school.
