Wu, a well-known name in 1980s, is a famous badminton player in China. She won six world championships, but never participated in the Olympic Games, because there was no badminton at the Olympic Games in her time.

Even though her mother didn't question her leaving Guangzhou to play badminton, she was firmly opposed to her marrying Indonesia.
