Henan belongs to the north, which is equivalent to the ancient Central Plains to some extent. At first, it had a large population, then fluctuated and finally stabilized.

Generally speaking, it is one of the most populous provinces in most times. The reason for this phenomenon is not difficult to understand. Of course, there must be several reasons why Henan has been able to retain so many people since ancient times:

First, Henan is located in the North China Plain, and there are many arable lands to be developed. Moreover, the climate is warm and pleasant. The Yellow River traverses the whole territory from west to east, with rivers, dense forests and fertile land.

This innate advantage can support a huge population, and it is also doomed that Henan will become a place where the population will gather for a long time.

Second, Henan has been an important cultural and political center of Chinese civilization from the beginning. In history, more than 20 orthodox dynasties have successively built or moved their capitals to Henan. This is doomed that Henan is attractive enough to the foreign population.

Thirdly, Henan is also the geometric center of China in ancient times, known as "the hinterland of Kyushu, the thoroughfare of ten provinces". There has always been a saying in history that "those who win the Central Plains win the world". Henan has become a battleground for military strategists, and four wars are inevitable. Every time there is chaos, the population of Henan will drop sharply.

Fourth, Henan is also the outflow place of war population in history. Yongjia Rebellion, the Jin family moved south, and the Han people in the Central Plains went south to Jiangnan, Hunan and Hubei.

During the Anshi Rebellion, the Central Plains was smeared with charcoal, and Han residents in Henan, Hebei and Shaanxi reached Jianghuai in the south and Sichuan in the west. The shame of Jingkang, the Song Dynasty moved south, and the residents of the Central Plains moved south on a large scale. Several large-scale immigrants in history are almost all related to Henan.
