He is a foreign researcher at the East-West Academic Research Institute of Kansai University, Japan, a distinguished researcher at the Buddhist Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and a part-time professor at the Institute of Religious Studies of Xiamen University. Executive director and vice president of the China Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties History Society, director of the China Tang History Society, executive director of the China Japan History Society, director of the Fujian History Society, member of the Japan Tang Dynasty History Society, and recipient of special allowances from the State Council.
