Why do people in Shanghai prefer to be scolded by Suzhou people rather than Ningbo people?

I think there are several main reasons.

1. Although both Suzhou dialect and Ningbo dialect belong to Wu dialect, the early mainstream of Shanghai was mostly immigrants from southern Jiangsu or Huzhou, Zhejiang Province, with a long cultural history, and they generally spoke politely. Many early immigrants from Ningbo to Shanghai were illiterate or poorly educated. They speak rashly and bluntly. For example, Ye Chengzhong and Yu Qiaqing, the leaders of Ningbo Gang, came to Shanghai as poor as a church mouse and had to become apprentices.

2. Some vocabulary expressions in Ningbo dialect may be normal for Ningbo people, but they are taboo for people in other Wu dialect areas. For example, the little girl is called Xiao Niang X, and the old man is called the old man stick. But the descendants of Ningbo people who came to Shanghai in the early days have now become the mainstream of Shanghai, and their influence on Shanghai is far stronger than that of Jiangsu people or Shanghai natives.

3. I feel that people in Yuyao and Cixi, which are close to Shaoxing, are more cultured than people in other parts of Ningbo, and more like people in southern Jiangsu and Hangjiahu. For example, Master Yu Yu Qiu is from Yuyao.
