The preparations for studying in the United States include not only the preparation of air tickets and luggage for studying abroad, but also the following points that need our attention.

People in China rarely have the habit of making an appointment, and basically they can't worry about getting things done when they go out with money. But in America, money may not always be what you want. Some freshmen are used to being taken care of, so at the beginning of studying abroad, they also regard the teachers in the international department as nannies, thinking that everything will be fine as long as they book the air tickets and fly to the local area.

Some schools will arrange airport pick-up service, but students need to confirm in advance. Some schools will attach traffic information to the welcome letter, listing the information of airport buses and some taxi companies for students' reference. Students should consider how to get to school after landing before leaving. If you don't know or understand the contents of the welcome letter, you can call and email the teacher in the international department in advance to confirm.

Students who need to live on campus must also reply to the accommodation information in the admission notice and contact the school accommodation office to choose and book a dormitory. The school accommodation office gave a confirmation form to prove that the dormitory had been booked. After that, we should pay attention to the time and date marked above in order to get the permission to move in.

Students who need to get to school before the dormitory opens, and those who plan to rent a house outside the campus, should also consider booking hotels in advance. It is best to choose a hotel that can be booked and cancelled free of charge within the prescribed time limit, and occupy the room first. If you find an apartment or better accommodation before flying to the United States, you can consider canceling your previous hotel reservation.

Don't arrive at school too early.

Students will also receive some practical information and a reminder letter when they receive the admission notice. In the reminder letter/welcome letter, the date of commencement and orientation will be specially reminded. Our suggestion is that it is best for freshmen to register one or two days before induction training. The advantage of this is that you have time to rest and buy daily necessities, the dormitory can be opened one after another, and all departments on campus are open to accept new students.

Many students and parents have a misconception that the earlier they get to school, the better. The US Immigration Service allows international students with student visas to enter the country as early as one month before the start of school. Therefore, many new international students can't wait to get to school two or three weeks in advance. They think that getting to school early can adapt to the environment and seize the opportunity to find a job on campus.

However, the fact is that almost all dormitories in the United States are closed during holidays, especially during the summer vacation. In other words, students who arrive at school too early can not only move into the dormitory, but also have to find their own hotel to stay until the start of school. Hotels are generally far from the campus, so it is not only inconvenient to go in and out of the campus every day, because there is no car, so we can only wander around the hotel.

In addition, in the United States, you can't work without legal work permits and certificates (such as social security cards). For students who have just arrived at school without any entrance education, the international department of colleges and universities will not provide employment information.
