What is Shang Hong culture?

Shang Hong refers to the old Hongjiang merchants, in fact, they are Han immigrant merchants and their descendants from all over the country, who basically settled in Hongjiang to do business.

"Shang Hong" is a regional concept, which usually refers to business gangs and businessmen doing business in Hongjiang. The ancestors of Shang Hong businessmen were mainly Han businessmen and Jiangxi immigrants, and their descendants in Hongjiang were Shang Hong businessmen. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, businessmen from all over the country gathered in Hongjiang, known as the "five houses and eighteen gangs". They formed the "Ten Pavilions of Hongjiang" with the nature of chamber of commerce, which has a high degree of local autonomy and undertakes many government management functions.

"Hongyou" is a fist product with core technology developed by Hongjiang merchants during the Qianlong period. Because of its excellent quality, it has been widely used as an anticorrosive coating for houses, wood products and ships. It once created a large number of Hongjiang businessmen and promoted the industrial development of western Hunan.

Adhering to the principle of "doing business in the world, keeping one word and keeping one word" and "preferring to lose money without knowing one's conscience", the older generation of Shang Hong businessmen can always stand up at critical moments, put the quality of honesty at the root, put the national justice first, and show the unique temperament of Hunan people that is both "overbearing" and "spiritual" to the fullest.
