In the second year of Yuanfeng in the Western Han Dynasty (109 BC), "Bisu" County was established, which belonged to Yizhou County.

On November 13, the Yunlong County People’s Communist Party was established in Qideng Village in Shili (now Jincao Township).
On January 1, 1950, the Yunlong County Working Committee and the County People’s Communist Party moved to Shimen, the county seat.
Yunlong County belongs to Dali Prefecture and became part of Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture in 1956.
In October 1958, Yunlong County was abolished and merged into Yongping County.
In March 1961, Yunlong County was restored and still belonged to the Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture.
