Suzhou, Anhui, is now called "South Xuzhou" by the people, because it borders Xuzhou, and "Su" is pronounced as "Xu" in both dialects to show the difference between Suzhou and Xuzhou.

In Jiangsu, there is also a "South Xuzhou" (named after the settlement of Xuzhou immigrants since Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties), which is now Danyang or Zhenjiang. Until the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, Zhenjiang was also called "South Xuzhou" among the people. For example, Liu Tieyun, the author of Travel Notes of Lao Can, claimed to be a native of Xuzhou in the south of the Yangtze River in the preface. Some people mistakenly think that he is from Xuzhou, but in fact he is from Danyang, Zhenjiang.
