Where is Datong, Shanxi?

Datong is the sub-central city and the second largest city in Shanxi Province. It is located in the center of Datong Basin in northern Shanxi Province, at the junction of Shanxi, Hebei and Mongolia provinces, and on the northeast edge of the Loess Plateau. It is actually the barrier of the whole Shanxi province, the gateway to the north and the throat of Shanxi, Hebei and Mongolia. It is a battleground for military strategists in past dynasties and is known as the "northern lock key".
