Shanxi Institute of Engineering and Technology, located in Yangquan City, Shanxi Province, is a full-time undergraduate college approved by the Ministry of Education and the first batch of transformation and application-oriented pilot universities in Shanxi Province.

The school was established in 1984. Formerly known as Yangquan Coal Professional Class of Shanxi Mining Institute. Yangquan Coal Institute was established in1986; 200 1, Yangquan College of Taiyuan University of Technology, a public secondary college, began to carry out undergraduate education.

20 14 Shanxi Institute of Engineering and Technology was established on the basis of Yangquan College of Taiyuan University of Technology and upgraded to an ordinary undergraduate college.

By March, 2023, the school had obtained "133 1 engineering" 1 dominant specialty disciplines, 7 provincial first-class undergraduate specialty construction sites, 3 provincial characteristic specialties and 2 provincial dominant specialties.

There are 56 experimental training rooms, including 2 provincial virtual simulation experimental teaching centers and 3 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers. There are 7 provincial-level excellent courses and 7 national-level college students' innovation and entrepreneurship training programs.
