Is it true that Zhu Changxun, the axe king, was cooked by Li Zicheng?

In the winter of the 13th year of Chongzhen (1640), Li Zicheng successively captured Yongning and Yiyang. Zhu, who lives in Luoyang, indulges in debauchery and is indifferent to the outside world, eating himself into a bloated giant fat man. When Li Zicheng Enemy at the Gates, Zhu finally woke up, called the company commanders who presided over the defense, and gave a lot of hospitality, hoping that these people could hold the city.

To be on the safe side, stingy Zhu took out his daughter to recruit soldiers. These recruited non-professional soldiers are still quite powerful, and the long hair rushed into the enemy camp, which made Li slightly retreat.

But in the end, Li Zicheng breached Luoyang City, and Zhu hanged a rope and escaped from the city, hiding in Ying 'en Temple in the western suburbs. The next day, it is estimated that Zhu was followed by Li's soldiers before he woke up. He was arrested and killed on the spot.

Zhu died so simply, but he never dreamed that he was famous in another way among many vassal kings in the Ming Dynasty.

According to legend, Zhu did not die in Hoonji, but was captured alive before Li Zicheng. Sweaty and terrified, Zhu kept kowtowing to Li Zicheng, begging for forgiveness, but was reprimanded by Li Zicheng Yizheng and then beaten forty times. After bloody pieces, he was cut off with a knife.

His body is divided into two parts, and his head is used for political purposes, that is, public display; And more than three hundred catties of body, Li Zicheng ordered people to shave off the tip of their nose, pull out their nails, kill some deer as a side dish, and cook them together in several cauldrons. Li Zicheng specially held a "special" celebration reception for himself, and the main course was boiled Zhu, the so-called "Fulu Reception".

There is, of course, another popular version, which is about Li Zicheng's public axe queen. The peasant army cut his body into paste and mixed it with venison, which is called "Fulu wine" to relieve the hatred in the heart.

But in fact, these two statements belong to folk rumors.

1924, Zhu's records were unearthed about 500 meters south of Miaohuai Village, Matun Township, Mengjin County, and are now hidden in Futu Temple, Mengjin County. This memoir, written by his son Zhu Youming, details the date of Li Zicheng's capture of Luoyang and the process of Zhu's execution:

"On the 20 th of the first month of the fourteenth year of Ming Chongzhen, tens of thousands of thieves suddenly captured the city ... The king stood up against the festival, swore to the thief, was generous and fierce, and died with the city." Although the article beautifies the axe king and says that he is "just ambitious, although he is still alive", it does not say that the axe king's body was cooked and eaten.

If it was really eaten by fire, Zhu Youyong would certainly not write like this. At least in words, he would be more excited. In this respect, his hatred for Li Zicheng is estimated to be even more vicious. ......

In addition, the Ming history records that Zhu died in Yingen Temple. Two attendants of the axe king held the body and wept bitterly. Li Zicheng's soldiers caught them and told them to leave, but they said the axe king was dead and they didn't want to live. They just want a coffin to hold the bones of the axe king. Seeing that they were crying sadly and emotionally, Chuangjun agreed to their request. Two loyal men hanged themselves beside the coffin after collecting the body of the axe king.

As the official history of the Qing Dynasty, Ming History doesn't make sense. This behavior of smearing the image of the former captaincy and belittling the Li Zicheng rebels' "boiled the axe king and ate it" is not recorded. It is purely from the standpoint of the Qing Dynasty. If it does happen, it is more beneficial to it than to record it. However, this statement was not adopted in the Ming history, indicating that at least the Qing government found it unreliable.
