What changes have taken place in the status quo of studying abroad in China from 2065438 to 2007?
The overall pattern of study destination countries is stable, and emerging study countries are favored because of "humanity and nature"
As we all know, in the past year, a series of major events such as the American election and Britain's withdrawal from the European Union occurred one after another. However, the white paper found that the number of students studying abroad has not been greatly affected, and 5 1% people think that the current international situation will basically not affect the choice of destination countries for studying abroad.
After three years' data research, the White Paper found that the education level of the country was the most important factor for overseas students to choose a country to study abroad for two consecutive years, accounting for 5 1%, indicating that the main reason for choosing a country to study abroad was to study abroad. At the same time, the comprehensive strength and culture of the country are also important factors for international students to consider, and the language environment, climate environment, security issues and the professional advantages of the country also account for a certain proportion. It is worth noting that more and more people regard suitable majors as an important consideration for studying abroad, accounting for 46%, while the proportion of schools as the primary consideration is slightly lower than 43%. For emerging countries studying abroad, humanities and natural environment are the main considerations.
This year's white paper was jointly investigated and launched by New Oriental Future Abroad Consulting Co., Ltd., New Oriental Abroad Examination Promotion Management Center, Beijing Haiwei Times Education Consulting Co., Ltd., VISA International Agency and Beijing Kaiduhua Tongminglve Information Consulting Co., Ltd. And for the first time, New Oriental Eurasia Education Consulting Co., Ltd. and Beijing Spank Education Consulting Co., Ltd. Sun Tao jointly investigated and launched Assistant Vice President of New Oriental Education Technology Group and Executive Vice President of New Oriental Future Abroad. They said that when young families choose to study abroad, in addition to the United States, New Zealand and Canada are also favored by them, which may be because these countries are cost-effective.
The number of people who choose to study abroad is increasing due to workplace pressure, and internal self-improvement is the main purpose of studying abroad.
In this year's survey, 30% of the people who are currently studying in technical secondary schools or below plan to study abroad. About 30% of parents think that high school is the minimum age for studying abroad. Generally speaking, the people studying abroad are still relatively young. At the same time, the proportion of "graduated" students who plan to study abroad has increased by 4% compared with last year, which shows that people are under great employment pressure at present, and more people hope to seek future development paths through studying abroad.
Compared with 20 16, the internal self-improvement drive is the main factor that determines international students to study abroad. For example, expanding international horizons and enriching life experiences are the main purposes of studying abroad, accounting for 6 1%. In contrast, the external pressure factors such as test-taking pressure, the influence of people around you and climate are in a secondary position.
The white paper points out that the current domestic study abroad groups are becoming more and more rational when choosing to study abroad. When choosing a major, more than half of the people take interest as the primary consideration, pay more attention to the fit between the characteristics of schools, majors and students, and stop blindly chasing top universities.
School selection, application, employment, etc. in preparation for studying abroad. Become more and more important. For example, half of the respondents said they would pay attention to "how about future employment". 50% students want to receive career planning and employment guidance services while receiving study abroad services, which shows that students' demands for career planning are getting stronger and stronger, and the overall purpose of studying abroad is enhanced. This is also reflected in the choice of study abroad institutions, in addition to paying attention to academic ability, the salary after graduation is also very important.
It has become a general trend for returnees to return to China for employment, but it generally reflects low job satisfaction.
According to the data of the Ministry of Education, the number of international students in China has reached more than 500,000 in 20 16. With the improvement of China's comprehensive national strength, the rapid development of domestic economy has brought more employment opportunities, and more students are willing to return to China for employment-73% of overseas students plan to return to China for employment after completing their studies. Many international students are willing to return to China for employment after studying abroad for a period of time, hoping that overseas work experience will be helpful for future employment.
"The city's economic development and public services are the main reasons for returnees to choose employment cities." According to the report, the respondents chose their current work city because of the rapid economic development, followed by complete infrastructure, good industrial foundation, concentrated public resources and good connections, accounting for 35.9%, 365, 438+0%, 30.7% and 27% respectively. In addition, 17.6% chose "relevant talent policy attraction" as the reason, which shows that the government's talent introduction policy has played a certain role. Due to the high housing prices and high cost of living in first-tier cities, only 6.8% of the respondents chose "low cost of living such as housing prices". Among the "other" options, a large number of respondents frankly chose their current work city for family reasons such as being close to home and staying at home.
In the choice of employment channels for returnees, returnees mainly seek jobs through recruitment websites, social media and other public channels, accounting for 60.4%. 17. 1% relies on the recommendation of family and friends to find jobs. Only 12.3% found jobs through the recruitment platforms for overseas students such as China Overseas Students Guangzhou Science and Technology Exchange Conference, which shows that there is still much room for improvement in this kind of recruitment platform for returned overseas students. The proportion of people looking for jobs through headhunters, human resources companies and other intermediaries is the least, only 4.3%. From the employment units and industries of returnees, private enterprises have become the main body of returnees' employment, exceeding 1/3, while the proportion of respondents from foreign-funded enterprises and state-owned enterprises is basically the same, accounting for 22.4% and 2 1.2% respectively. The financial industry has become a popular major for returnees, accounting for 20.3%.
The white paper found that returnees generally have a positive attitude towards the development prospect of their industry in the future 10, with 42.3% of the respondents holding a positive attitude and 33.3% of the respondents believing that the development is stable. The survey shows that the employment of returnees is diversified, and the returnees after 1985 are mainly engaged in grassroots work. At the same time, the salary competitiveness of returnees after 1985 is not strong, ranging from 5000 yuan to 65438+ 10,000 yuan. It should be emphasized that more than 80% of returnees feel that their studies are useless, and their job satisfaction is generally low, mainly because there is a big gap between what they have learned and what they have used. For example, more than half of the respondents think that the job content roughly matches the knowledge they have learned overseas.
The study abroad group lacks understanding of the application process of emerging study abroad countries, and the study abroad studio is still a minority choice.
According to the report, international students have a good understanding of the application process of traditional countries such as the United States, Canada, Britain and Australia, but some students who plan to study in emerging countries, including New Zealand, some European countries and Asian countries, have a relatively low understanding of how to apply for studying abroad.
"The survey found that the preparation period for studying abroad was shortened, indicating that the proportion of preparation for six months in advance has increased significantly." According to the report, the preparation period of half a year is really tight for studying abroad, and some better choice opportunities may be missed. Early preparation and planning can increase the probability of applying to the most suitable colleges and majors, thus maximizing the value of studying abroad. Therefore, students and parents who want to study abroad are advised to make preparations early.
In choosing service institutions for studying abroad, the proportion has increased by 14% compared with last year. At the same time, the number of people applying for DIY study abroad is still small, accounting for only 15%. In recent years, a large number of small study abroad studios have appeared in the study abroad market, but the report shows that 55% of the respondents expressed their willingness to accept the services of national chain study abroad institutions, and only 4% chose small study abroad studios, which is not the mainstream choice of students and parents.
