The school is a public full-time general higher education institution established with the approval of the Ministry of Education. It is a full-time public general medical college and was selected into the first batch of national modern apprenticeship pilot units.

The school has established a close cooperative relationship with the Graduate School of Wuhan University and Zhengzhou University, providing support and assistance to the school in teacher training, professional development, teaching management, scientific research, laboratory construction, etc. Through inter-school cooperation, we not only cultivate a group of high-level health technical talents for the grassroots level, but also learn and draw on advanced school-running concepts and management experience, train the teaching staff, and improve teaching, management and service levels.

According to statistics, among the 198 township health centers in Shangqiu City, the deans and deputy deans of 183 township health centers, and more than 85% of the department heads and business backbones are graduates of the school. Wu Jingfang, a well-known expert in the Chinese nursing field who graduated from the school in the early years, is the 33rd recipient of the "Nightingale Medal". Since 1980, 15 graduates of the school have obtained Master of Medicine and Doctor of Medicine degrees. In the past three years, the graduate employment rate has remained above 90% and has been well received by employers.
