Taoran Pavilion is a famous pavilion in Qing Dynasty and one of the four famous pavilions in China. In the thirty-fourth year of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (AD 1695), Jiang Zao, then the director of the kiln factory, founded this pavilion in Bates Temple, and named it after the poem of Bai Juyi, a poet in the Tang Dynasty, "It is better to be at home than to be drunk with your husband." This is the origin of the name of the park.

Bates Temple in the park was built in Yuan Dynasty. Famous patriots such as Lin Zexu, Gong Zizhen and Qiu Jin often come here to sing poems and express their feelings. Before and after the May 4th Movement, many revolutionary pioneers also engaged in revolutionary activities here. Now this place is a key cultural relic protection unit in Beijing. There are tombstones of Gao, a famous early activist of our party, and his ex-girlfriend Shi Pingmei on the central island.
