How many countries in the world use Portuguese as their mother tongue or official language?

Eight countries use Portuguese as the official language, namely Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Cape Verde Islands, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Sao Tome and Principe and Timor-Leste. In addition, there are China, Macau and Goa.

There are many Spanish-speaking countries, and almost all of South America are Spanish-speaking countries except Brazil. Countries that use Spanish as an official language include Belgium, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Equatorial Guinea, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Spain, Uruguay and Venezuela.
